Scientists from Emory University and the Georgia Institute of Technology have made remarkable advances into recording the electrical activity that the nervous system uses to control complex skills.

Eight ECE faculty and staff and four ECE students were honored at Georgia Tech awards programs held during April.

ECE Associate Professor Patricio Vela received the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 2018 John O. Bickel Award for a paper co-authored with colleagues from the University of Cambridge.

ECE Ph.D. student Sanghoon Lee has been awarded the 2018 National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowship. 

ECE Associate Professor Omer T. Inan has been selected for the 2018 IEEE Sensors Council Young Professional Award.

ECE Ph.D. student Abhinav Parihar has received the Chih Foundation Graduate Research Award.

ECE Ph.D. student Sensen Li was chosen for the 2018 IEEE Radio Frequency Integrated Circuits Symposium (RFIC) Best Student Paper Award.

Six recent ECE graduates were honored with Best Thesis Awards at the Georgia Tech Sigma Xi Awards Banquet, held on April 9 at the Klaus Building Atrium. This is the largest number of students that ECE has ever had honored at this event.

ECE Associate Professor Maryam Saeedifard has been chosen for the 2018 IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IES) J. David Irwin Early Career Award.

ECE Ph.D. student Sadegh Vejdan received the Best Paper Award at the 2018 IEEE Texas Power and Energy Conference, held February 8-9 in College Station, Texas.

ECE Associate Professor Arijit Raychowdhury received the 2018 IEEE/ACM "Innovator Under 40 Award" at the Design Automation Conference, held June 24-28 in San Francisco, California. 

ECE Ph.D. student Adrian Ildefonso has received the 2018 IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society (NPSS) Graduate Scholarship Award for his research contributions to the radiation effects community. 

Recent ECE Ph.D. graduate Wenjing Su has been invited to attend the 2018 Rising Stars Workshop, hosted by the MIT Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

ECE Professor Muhannad S. Bakir has been named the recipient of the 2018 IEEE Electronics Packaging Society (EPS) Exceptional Technical Achievement Award.

Georgia Tech’s HyTech Racing team recently won first place at the Formula Hybrid competition.

ECE Assistant Professor Omer T. Inan has received a National Science Foundation CAREER Award for his research project entitled “Wearable Joint Sounds Sensing for Children with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis.”

The Georgia Tech EcoCAR 3 team placed fifth overall and won numerous top prizes at EcoCAR 3, a four-year student competition sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) and General Motors.

ECE Ph.D. student Nil Gurel received the runner-up prize at the 2018 IEEE Body Sensor Networks Conference Best Paper Award competition.

ECE Ph.D. student Muneeb Zia is the first author on a paper that has been named as one of the five most popular papers from the IEEE Transactions on Components, Packaging, and Manufacturing Technology, according to 2017 usage statistics.

ECE Ph.D. student Tom Sarvey has been named the recipient of the 2017 Best Paper Award for the IEEE Transactions on Components, Packaging, and Manufacturing Technology in the Components: Characterization and Modeling category.

ECE Assistant Professor Fatih Sarioglu has received a National Science Foundation CAREER Award for his research project entitled “Feedback-Controlled Microfluidic Chips with Integrated Sensor Networks for Blood Analysis.”

ECE Ph.D. student Sensen Li has received a 2018 IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S) Doctoral Research Grant.

Saibal Mukhopadhyay has been appointed to the Joseph M. Pettit Professorship, effective May 1, 2018.

ECE Professor Geoffrey Ye Li has been named the recipient of the 2017 IEEE Donald G. Fink Overview Paper Award, which is given by the IEEE Signal Processing Society.

Tracer FIRE for the U.S. Department of Energy is a program developed by Sandia and Los Alamos National Laboratories to educate and train cyber security incident responders and analysts in critical skill areas.

Panagiotis (Panos) Kintis has been selected to participate as a DARPA Riser in D60, DARPA’s 60th anniversary symposium.

ECE Ph.D. student Motaz Alfarraj was selected for the Center for Signal and Information Processing (CSIP) Outstanding Service Award for spring semester 2018.
