How has ECE prepared you for your next chapter?

The foundation I have built over the past few years has set me up well to be a life-long learner. Long study nights and days in the lab culminated into an ability to quickly pick up the skills/drive that will help me in any direction I decide to take my career. I'm incredibly grateful to have completed my undergrad degree in ECE here at Tech and am so excited about all of the opportunities it will undoubtedly provide.

What advice to you have for future ECE graduates?

Don't be afraid to ask for help, office hours aren't scary! Go to Georgia Tech-Europe, it'll be the best semester of your undergrad! Utilize the makerspaces and don't be afraid to show your creative side!

What are your plans after graduation?

I hope to move forward in my education with the BS/MS program focusing on energy and electromagnetics. This summer I'll begin this journey working on research in these fields.

What is your favorite memory while at ECE?

I've really cherished the community that is ECE here at Tech. I was fortunate to be part of an awesome group of folks dedicating their time to teaching others and getting to be makers at the Hive and encourage anyone with the same passion to join. Additionally, the comradery between myself and my classmates will be a relationship I will forever be grateful for in helping each other get through the past few years.

Yash Kulkarni 2024 graduate

Yash Kulkarni

Degree: B.S. Computer Engineering

Yash is a Computer Engineering student graduating from Georgia Tech in Spring 2024. He has worked as the President of the ECE Student Advisory Board (SAB) and the robotics lead of Georgia Tech IEEE. Yash enjoys collaborating with people to achieve goals, both technical and non-technical, and working to ensure friendly and close communities.

How has ECE prepared you for your next chapter?

Georgia Tech ECE has no doubt equipped me with the skills necessary to succeed in my career and beyond. But moreover, the ECE department has left me with lasting connections with wonderful fellow engineers who have enriched my experience here. I'm leaving my undergrad prepared to collaborate with others and employ and expand the skills I have developed.

What advice to you have for future ECE graduates?

Explore what interests you and don't be afraid to reach out to people for anything. Try to get involved in things like events or clubs, there are great people to meet and new things to learn!

What are your plans after graduation?

I'll be pursuing my master's here through the BS/MS program.

What is your favorite memory while at ECE?

My favorite memory was the first time the ECE SAB threw the haunted house. That was my first year on the board and it was great seeing everyone in the community come in and have a good time!

How has GT-ECE prepared you for your next chapter?

GT-ECE has been a wonderful community where I've been able to work with so many amazing people. From my classes and the VIP program, I've learned so much about myself and how I can make a difference using the skills I've gained here.

What advice to you have for future ECE graduates?

For future ECE grads, make sure to explore all the opportunities you can while you're at GT. There are so many options available for you to invest in your future on this campus, and you might find an ECE focus you never would have thought of.

What are your plans after graduation?

After graduation, I will be working for Texas Instruments as an aplications engineer for microcontroller devices.

What is your favorite memory while at GT-ECE?

I think, if I had to pick, my favorite memory would be the day I got a callback regarding the internship I applied for at TI last summer. It was like all the hard work for the previous five years had finally paid off, and it led to a full time position that I hope blossoms into a career I love.

There are so many options available for you to invest in your future on this campus, and you might find an ECE focus you never would have thought of.

Degree: B.S in Computer Engineering

How has ECE prepared you for your next chapter?

The amount of passionate and intelligent people I've encountered in this program is certainly inspiring and I work hard knowing the competition is out there. Georgia Tech's ECE program offers all experiences: group work such as in ECE 2031, research in ORS, interdisciplinary projects in VIP, industry knowledge from all the company events and tape-out courses. Being able to pick and choose from these activities shaped who I am. I'll definitely feel more confident making any career choice moving forward.

What advice to you have for future ECE graduates?

If I could do GT all over again, I would go and explore everything the School has to offer. Not just within ECE but also other disciplines like biomedical, mechanical, etc. I feel that many students will find ECE more enjoyable by combining their knowledge across fields. There are also study abroad opportunities.

What are your plans after graduation?

Upon graduation, I was given the Undergraduate Research Award as well as the ECE Senior Scholar Award by the School. I'll be continuing my interests in computer architecture and neuromorphic chip design. I'm interning at Apple over this summer and will be returning in fall for BS/MS in ECE. I hope to meet new people and learn from new professors.

What is your favorite memory while at ECE?

My favorite memories are undoubtedly when I'm working through long nights on difficult homeworks/projects with classmates. A unique camaraderie is formed in our common suffering in ECE and long-lasting relationships are born from it. I encourage upcoming students to experience the same, and of course have fun as well.

Fabia Farlin Athena

Major: Ph.D. ECE

How has ECE prepared you for your next chapter?

I came to GT-ECE from a materials science background. ECE provided me the platform to develop my background and the opportunity to apply for fellowships so that I could pursue the type of research that interest me deeply.

What advice to you have for future ECE graduates?

I would like to encourage future ECE graduates to be cognizant of the opportunities that ECE provides and to seek out what interest them. If they can find where their real interests lie, research and everything that comes after can be a joy to behold.

What are your plans after graduation?

I have started my postdoc at Stanford with Professor H.-S. Philip Wong and Professor Alberto Salleo, as a Stanford Energy Postdoctoral Fellow.

What is your favorite memory while at ECE?

The moment I was informed of the IBM Ph.D. fellowship and sharing that moment with my Professor Eric M. Vogel and my family. It was the moment I realized so much can be possible, I only need to believe in myself and work towards my goals.

Deanna Yancey

Major: M.S. ECE

How has ECE prepared you for your next chapter?

Having the ability to take classes from professors who have worked in the industry has been eye-opening. They have been able to teach us what is standard practice as well as tips and tricks that will help us succeed.

What advice do you have for future ECE graduates?

Never stop learning. This doesn't always need to be another degree, but always challenge yourself to learn something new!

What are your plans after graduation?

Since I am an online student I have been working while taking classes. So my next step is to continue to work at Northrop Grumman and maybe help mentor the next group of engineers.

What is your favorite memory while at ECE?

There are not a lot of ways that online students can make friends, but I have had the chance to make a few friends over the last two years. The late-night calls working on assignments, laughing at mistakes that we have made, and the shared confusion at times will be something I truly cherish. I hope to meet up with them in the coming years and grow the friendships even more.
