April 11, 2011 - Prof. Raheem Beyah Receives DARPA Grant
Prof. Raheem Beyah has received a two-year grant for $400,000 from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) for a project titled "Network Intrusion Detection Using Hardware Signatures." The grant will allow Prof. Raheem Beyah to investigate how to secure networks from insider threats involving the insertion of unauthorized devices. He will be developing a prototype hardware signature IDS (intrusion detection system) that employs techniques similar to those used in human speech identification.

Prof. Raheem Beyah and Dr. Yingshu Li have received a grant for $83,884 from the National Science Foundation for a project titled "EAGER: Evaluating the Feasibility of Self-Protecting Heterogeneous Wireless Sensor Networks." The two researchers will tackle the problem of building a "self-protecting" wireless sensor network (WSN) that can defend against known attacks as well as potential future attacks.

Prof. Raheem Beyah is one of 12 junior faculty members in the U.S. to be named to a highly selective research study group sponsored by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). The Computer Science Study Group (CSSG) is a program that supports university research in computer science and related fields while allowing younger researchers to become more knowledgeable about Department of Defense (DoD) information technology needs.
