Introduction to ECE Design (1-3-2)



Catalog Description
An introduction to basic concepts useful for all areas of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Focus on hands-on, team-based activities using robotics.

Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:
  1. Explain and easily recognize and differentiate fundamental concepts of charge, voltage, and current flow
  2. Demonstrate a basic understanding of DC motor control and how to work with them (power, speed, torque, and tradeoffs using gearing)
  3. Describe the many subdisciplines of ECE
  4. Assess the factors affecting the reliability and repeatability of the programmed tasks (How consistently does it work? How well does it work? Why?)
  5. Work in teams, including: Fair delegation of tasks; Communicate with peers; Create a realistic time-line for a project and stick to it or assess
  6. why it didn't work; Write a report outlining a design strategy and assessing its strengths, weaknesses, and feasibility;
  7. Write a report describing functional/technical specifications of the proposed design strategy
