Biography
Hossein Taheri received his B.S.E.E. from the
University of Tehran, Iran, in July 2009. As a high school student, Hossein was a medalist
in the 17th National Physics Olympiad (2004, Tehran, Iran). He also
ranked ninth in the 13th National Olympiad for University Students
(2008, Tehran, Iran), where he participated as a junior ECE student.
Hossein's internship, under the tutelage
of Prof. Morteza Fathipour and Prof. Mahmoud Shahabadi, involved
getting familiar with photonic crystals. His B.Sc. thesis work,
supervised by Prof. M. Shahabadi in the Photonics Lab of the School of
Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Tehran,
focused on the excitation of plasmonic waveguides and, in particular,
the analysis of tapered cylindrical dielectric waveguides. Both his
internship and his B.Sc. thesis encouraged him to enter the area of
photonics for his graduate studies. He joined Prof. Ali Adibi’s
research group at the Georgia Institute of Technology in August 2009,
where he is now a Ph.D. student.
