Biography
Pouyan Mohajerani received his B.S. in electrical engineering from
Sharif University, Tehran, in 2002. He earned his Master’s degree in telecommunications from
Georgia Institute of Techology in May 2004. From August 2004 to May 2005 he served as a DSP
algorithm developer in an intern position in Atlanta GA. He has been with Photonics Research
Group since May 2005 as a Ph.D. student. Pouyan served an internship position as imaging
scientist at VisEn Medical Inc., Bedford MA, during the summer of 2007 where we worked on
algorithms for robust fluorescent imaging for the FMT 2500™ small animal imager (work resulted
in pending US patents).
His research is mainly focused on signal processing for biomedical
imaging with an emphasis on optical modalities; particularly, fluorescent molecular tomography
(FMT) and diffuse optical tomography (DOT). The research is of experimental and theoretical
nature and has immediate applications in tumor detection and characterization; thus conducive
to early cancer detection and characterization and facilitating pharmaceutical studies.
