Laboratory for Advanced Photonics and Optoelectronics (LAPO)

Welcome to the Cai Group at Georgia Tech

The Laboratory for Advanced Photonics and Optoelectronics (LAPO) is working to advance the state of the art in nanophotonics and optoelectronics. These broad research areas encompass the fields of plasmonics, optical metamaterials, nonlinear optics, integrated photonics, transformation optics, and photovoltaics. Our research interests are in the unconventional control of light at the micro- and nanoscale, with the goal of producing innovative photonic applications for optical signal processing, routing and switching in nanocircuits, energy harvesting, bio-imaging and bio-sensing, and more.

The research team is led by Professor Wenshan Cai, who joined Georgia Tech and started LAPO in January 2012. Please click on tabs above for more information about members of the group, current research areas, teaching schedule and materials, and the academic track record of Dr. Cai.

Location

We are located in the Pettit MiRC Building, which is approximately the geographic center of the Georgia Tech campus. Visitors may need to use the Area 4 metered visitor parking lot.

Openings

Graduate student and postdoctoral applications are accepted on a rolling basis, depending on project needs and availability of research funds. Applicants in the general area of micro- and nano-photonics should contact Prof. Cai by email with a CV, a statement of interests, and contact information of potential references. Self-funded candidates from both domestic and foreign institutions are welcome as well.
