Dr. Gisele Bennett is a Regents' Researcher, the director of the Electro-Optical Systems Laboratory, and a Professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering. She founded the Logistics and Maintenance Applied Research Center (LandMARC), a multi-disciplinary center at the Georgia Institute of Technology. She is a former member of the scientific cadré with Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique Laboratoire Optique (CNRS). As the director of the Electro-Optical Systems Laboratory (EOSL), she manages over 150 researchers, scientists, and students in a diverse applied research environment with research funding annually over $30M.
Her research interests are broad and include coherence theory applications to optical imaging systems, atmospheric turbulence and wave propagation, RFID and secure supply chain technologies. She holds patents on Integrated Sensor Radio Frequency Identification (ISRFID) with location and container security devices, has numerous patents pending, and a copyright on a computer model for Wave Propagation through the atmosphere. She has numerous active projects that involve international collaboration with diverse funding from DoD to industry. She holds officer positions in OSA and IEEE and serves in a variety of professional activities involving optical engineering research. She has served as a research proposal reviewer for the National Institute of Health (NIH) and National Science Foundation (NSF) and a reviewer for numerous refereed journals. She is one of the first ten fellows chosen for Georgia Tech's University Leadership program. She has over 90 publications in books or book chapters, refereed journals, technical reports, and workshops.
