Program Enrichment Workshops
Throughout the year, the ORS Program hosts monthly enrichment workshops for program participants. The scholars are also made aware of additional events on campus that may be of interest. Examples of the ORS ECE enrichment workshops include:
- Orientation and Ice Cream Social for Scholars and Mentors
ECE mentors give presentations about their laboratories and dissertation topics. An interactive Q&A session is held to assist in matching the interests of the scholars with the mentors.
- Mentor Training Workshop
This workshop facilitated by seasoned ORS mentors helps to define the role that mentors play in the ORS program. It sheds light on possible challenges faced by mentors, explains the concept of “active” or “intrusive” advising, and gives tips to foster a successful mentor-scholar connection.
- How to Take Your ORS Research Experience and Extend it to the GT Research Option
In this activity, ECE faculty and the ECE ORS co-director for ECE discuss various research options with ORS Scholars. These include pursuit of the Georgia Tech research option, which is designated on individual diplomas at graduation, or translating ORS research experiences into academic credit or paid assignments.
- Engineering Research Skills Workshop
A highly interactive workshop designed to increase student’s confidence in their research ability. Scholars learn the fundamentals of research documentation, abstract writing, and literature reviews. Scholar’s receive a Researcher’s Toolkit publication and a bounded lab notebook.

These ORS Group presentations include group member introductions, brief statements on research topics and goals, and explanations of specific research tasks.

This event for ORS Participants, ECE faculty and staff, and Corporate representatives celebrates the end of the school year and showcases the ORS Scholars’ research.
