Our Purpose
The CP I/O system enables a patient afflicted with cerebral palsy to interface with a computer to read and compose emails. Sponsored by Kiwanis International, a global philanthropic organization of volunteers, the project consists of I/O devices that interact with a custom on-screen graphical user interface. The input is taken from a convenient hand-held push button and two foot pedals. A two-dimensional user interface receives the input from the devices and implements a predictive text algorithm in order to expedite the composition of e-mails. The system can be used by individuals with cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, or spinal cord injuries.
