Our Purpose
The CP I/O system will enable a patient afflicted with cerebral palsy to interface with a computer to read and compose emails. Sponsored by Kiwanis International, a global philanthropic organization of volunteers, the project will consist of an I/O device that interacts with a custom on-screen graphical user interface. The input will be taken from a convenient hand-held push button and two foot pedals. A one-dimensional user interface would receive the input from the devices and will implement a predictive text algorithm in order to expedite the composition of e-mails. The proposed system can be used by individuals with cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, or spinal cord injuries.
