Biography
Dr. Zhang received her B.S. degree from Tongji University in Materials Science and Engineering in 1995. She received a M.S. degree from University of Illinois at Chicago in Materials Engineering and a M.S. degree from University of Massachusetts Lowell in Electrical Engineering in 2001 and 2002, respectively. She received her Ph.D. degree from University of California at Berkeley in Systems Engineering in 2006.
Dr. Zhang’s research interests focus on systems level of interdisciplinary problems, and she has extensive research experience and publications in multiple engineering disciplines. Her doctoral dissertation topic, “MEMS/NEMS Design Automation and Synthesis,” illustrated her creation of powerful, efficient design synthesis tools for Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS) devices, which help engineers to develop rapid, optimal configurations for a given set of performance and constraint guidelines. Other than her dissertation research, she has been actively involved in several research projects related to sensors and smart sensing systems. Her efforts in these projects have included sensor design, optical sensing system development and wireless sensor networks development for very broad applications. She also contributed to the development of non-destructive testing and structural health monitoring techniques for civil and materials engineering applications.
