Browser Tips

Set Browser to download new pages once per session (rather than use cached pages).

With older versions of Netscape Navigator (3.0), under the "Options" menu, select "Network Preferences" and in the "Check Documents" box click on the middle button, "Once per Session". Newer versions (4.0) do not seem to have this as a settable option (no action needed)

If the Class Web Page appears to be an old version that does not have information you expect to see there, click the "reload" button. If the new information appears, you need to do this every time you look at the Class Page or reset a "preference" as above.

Utility Files

Have Acrobat Reader version 3.0 or later available for PDF files. This application can be downloaded free from Adobe.

The older Web sites have some PS (postscript) files. To read them, use Ghostview (view or print: PC, Macintosh, or UNIX) or *Drop-.PS (print, Macintosh only).

Email Tips

If your Prism account is not the email account that you check regularly, have it set to forward your email automatically to your main account. To do this, call 404 894-7173 or send email to "support@oit.gstech.edu" for instructions.

If you use the Browser editor (e.g., Netscape Composer) to edit homework files, be sure to send me a "TEXT" file, with no HTML imbedded commands.

Be sure to disable "By default, send HTML messages"

To download Excel Spreadsheet Files, the Browser must be set to recognize the .XLS extension means "save to disk" and that it is a "binary" (not "text") file.

Note: "application/x-excel" is set for "save to disk."Click the "Edit" button to change settings. Click here for similar window in MS Internet Explorer
