ICC 2003 Call For Tutorial Proposals

ICC 2003
Call for Tutorial Proposals

INTRODUCTION

High-quality tutorials are a long-standing ICC tradition. They complement the depth-oriented technical sessions by providing participants with broad overviews of emerging fields. There are eight half-day tutorials planned for Sunday, May 11, 2003, and four half-day tutorials planned for Thursday morning, May 15, 2003. There are no full-day tutorials planned for ICC 2003.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Proposals must be submitted electronically to both of the Tutorial Chairs:

before the submission deadline of September 1, 2002. The preferred format is PDF, but proposals in the form of plain text, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Powerpoint, or Postscript will also be accepted.

PROPOSAL GUIDELINES

There is no required format for the tutorial proposal; however, it is suggested that the proposal contain the following information:

  • Tutorial Title
  • Instructor: full name and contact address, email, phone
  • Abstract: A concise description of the content and goals of the tutorial (200 words or less).
  • Scope: Is this a survey of several topics, or an in-depth study of one?
  • Intended Audience
  • Motivation
  • Objectives: What will the participants learn?
  • Prior History: If the instructor has given a similar tutorial previously, explain when and where, and estimate attendance.
  • Outline: Include rough time allocations.
  • Biographical Sketch
  • Major References: This list will help identify the scope.
  • Supplementary Materials: Anything that might help the reviewers evaluate the proposal, such as sample viewgraphs.

REVIEW PROCESS

Tutorial proposals will be evaluated on the basis of their estimated benefit for prospective participants and on their fit within the tutorials program as a whole. Factors to be considered include: relevance, timeliness, importance, and audience appeal; suitability for presentation in a half-day format; and past experience and qualifications of the instructors. Selection is also based on the overall distribution of topics, expected attendance, and specialties of the intended audiences. Thus, not all tutorials of technical merit can be accommodated within the tutorials program. Because there are fewer tutorials planned than in previous years, a lower acceptance rate is expected.
